Acting seemed to lead on from singing by applying for musicals; Maria  found herself drawn to the idea of communicating with an audience without music or melody and hence a new passion started, acting running parallel with singing. She is a singer/ actress or actress/ singer depending on what she is working on; they are both just as important to her. This can be seen in the Granada documentary of Victoria and Albert where she played  HRH Princess Helena, a dutiful daughter with musical talent.

Maria played Janice Ferrari in the West End production of Joey's and Gina's wedding.

It is characters that challenges people's perceptions that draws Maria to acting.
