 You are my sun in the morning |
 That old devil called love |
Picture a room. Hear the conversation and the
laughter, the lights illuminating the pianist as the notes take shape under his
fingers into a song. The song sweeps the audience along through many moods from
light to darkness, rising from a whisper to a scream, expressing joy and pain in
one short burst of existence before being extinguished in the hush that comes
after the final note and before the applause. This is where Maria Davis comes
alive.
Maria began singing jazz with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and has
performed at most of the great jazz venues including Ronnie Scott’s. She has a
parallel passion for the visual arts and is a keen observer of her audience.
This ability to express her ideas in both the musical and visual mediums is what
forms the basis for her current exhibition
Maria’s art is instilled with the freedom of expression that echoes the loose
improvisations that is found in jazz. In encapsulates the components that make
up a great live performance.
This show is the first time Maria's dynamic and fluid work can be seen outside
of private collections. On the preview night Maria will be performing a
selection the music that inspired her art. We hope you will be able to attend
what will be a very enjoyable night.
